The teenage years are some of the most challenging years of our lives. The transition from child to adult can feel like  a perilous journey for all those involved in the young person's life. Puberty brings with it changes in the body, brain and emotionally that can make a young person feel like they are on a rollercoaster ride inside. On top of that, new social pressures, self-consciousness, academic responsibilities and the natural shift away from family, can make life feel confusing and challenging for teens.

It is quite normal to experience low mood, anxiety and anger during this time, but as it's so new for teens they can find themselves struggling to understand these overwhelming emotions.

I have worked with teens since 2007 in both state and independent schools and in private practice.  I have worked with young people struggling with a variety of issues including such things as low mood, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, OCD and gender issues.

There are times when an onward referral to CAMHS (children and adolescent mental health service) is needed,  and I can support with those referrals.
